About Us

Our
Philosophy

We believe the Independent Retailer is the lifeline of the British High Street. Waterers believe in giving excellent service to fulfil each customer’s individual needs, offering high quality products that are unique and will not be found in many of the corporate retailers. Tailoring is a dying art; at Waterers we still alter garments by hand in our workshop on the premises.
Our History

The bespoke tailoring workshop was originally called H.Y Waterer established in 1934 as a limited company by Mr Harold Yearlie Waterer. Waterers have been in St. Albans City ever since, with the first premises situated in Spencer Street. Famous for military tailoring the business grew and relocated to Victoria Street in 1973, finally residing in its current spot on the High Street since 1991. During the last 30 years two retail premises have been established in St. Albans and Harpenden selling casual wear and suiting off the peg whilst continuing the tradition of British tailoring.

Our People

Two generations of the Masi family work in the business to preserve the unique place of the tailors on St. Albans High Street.

Tony Masi emigrated from Italy where he learned tailoring from the age of ten and took up a position with the original Mr H.Y Waterer. He met Carol Archer a button hole maker at H.Y Waterers who he married and had two children Andrew and Anna. His son Andrew joined the business from school and has expanded the business into wedding hire.
